Response Team and its member’s volunteer time at the camp.

get treatment; identify the ones traveling without their
parents and ensure that they get home. One special role is
to help the mothers who have given birth to children in the
camp and on transit.

Posted February 7, 2008- For the past nine years I have
worked as a volunteer with
Reach the Children, an organization whose mission is
to “facilitate self-reliance in communities dedicated to
the well being of underprivileged children.” To that end,
I have helped Reach the Children volunteers in several
countries dig wells, organize medical clinics, build
schools, teach school programs, initiate micro-finance
loans, create women's enterprises, teach basic child care,
health and hygiene, and whatever else those living in-
country have requested.
Along the way we have laughed, cried, played,
hugged and prayed with those whom we have come to regard as
our extended family. We have witnessed miracles. Our
Kenyan friends from all walks of life and all venues of
spiritual belief have become, in every sense of the word,
our sisters and brothers.

Posted December 2006- An “orphan-headed household” is one
of the most
heartrending plights of the HIV/AIDS pandemic that is
devastating Africa. Children, no more than 9 or 10 years
old, sometimes find themselves in the position of being the
head of a “family” consisting of themselves and younger
siblings. Sadly, orphan-led families like these are
becoming all too common, but they are only one
manifestation of the impact AIDS is having on Africa …
